As government budgets decline and donor interest in public extension services decreases, there is much uncertainty about the role of extension in development. What models of privatisation could make the quality and content of extension provision more responsive to farmer’s priorities? Should public programmes subsidise private extension providers? What are the equity implications of current reforms?
