To evaluate the effects of nitrogen fertilizer amounts and sources on yield, tuber nitrate concentration an experiment was conducted as Factorial Randomized Block design with four nitrogen level (0, 180, 270 and 360 kg net nitrogen per hectare) and three nitrogen fertilizers (urea , ammonium sulfate and sulfur coated urea (SCU) in three replications in Jiroft. Process was equally for all treatments were performed. Yield in each of the treatments were weighing in harvest time. The amount of total nitrogen and tuber nitrate measured and nitrogen efficiency was calculated by 2-year results showed ammonium sulfate source with high performance and less nitrate nitrogen accumulation and higher nitrogen use efficiency, especially in calcareous soils dry and semi-arid regions to the urea and sulfur coated urea is preferred. But taking the appropriate amount of urea (based on 180 kg of pure nitrogen) with higher nitrogen percent is cheaper than ammonium sulfate and similar yield is also advisable (in this case nitrate is less than critical level). Best nitrogen level, is 180 kg of pure nitrogen per hectare that resulted to higher yield, less tuber nitrate and higher nitrogen efficiency is advisable in potato cultivation in Jiroft area.
