This paper from the AgBioWorld Foundation is a direct response to an earlier paper from the Zambian Kasisi Agricultural Training Centre (KATC) and the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) which challenged the suitability of existing GM technology for Zambian agriculture and supported their Governments position with regard to GM food aid.The authors directly attack the findings of the KATC/JCTR paper on the grounds that it's arguments are essentially political rather than scientific in that it is concerned primarily with the economic impacts of GM technology. They also question the christian priorities of one of the commissioning organisations, a Jesuit group and accuse the author of trying to justify the starvation of her fellow countrymen for idealogical reasons.The rebuttal takes us through the original paper point by point to argue the lack of credible scientific approach before reaching the conclusion that the KATC/JCTR paper:is not a scientific document.represents the partial interests of some Zambian economic groups.manipulates scientific data to support its thesis.does not show a knowledge of the topic sufficient to draw an informed judgement.is based on an idea of “Nature” foreign to the Hebrew-Christian tradition.contradicts the position of the Catholic Church towards agricultural biotechnology.seeks to justify starvation.
