The Moroto cross border peace meeting

This report documents the 3rd of a series of meetings dealing with the conflicts between the Karamajong, Turkana and Pokot pastoral communities. At the previous meeting a number of decisions had been made and the purpose of the Moroto meeting was to review progress on implementation of these decisions, to maintain dialogue and to discuss new opportunities for development and peacebuilding in the area.A stakeholder situation analysis was conducted as a way achieving these goals with groups made up from representatives from adjacent communities then taking the findings from the analysis as the basis to formulate action plans. The outcomes of both the analysis and the action planning are summarised by the report. Among the conclusions of the report were:continual evaluation of progress made and future steps, along with intensive follow up, is necessary to ensure change occursCollaboration is a key component to building peace in the region and development organisations have a key role in facilitating thisthe creation of peace committees at the cattle camp level could make a significant impact on increasing capacity in communities to resolve their own conflicts. Partners must ensure these are established with appropriate support and involvement
