The frigo or cold stored strawberry plants are widely used in different strawberry production systems in many countries for extending the production season. There is still lack of experience with these plants under the conditions of Latvia, because the import of these plants has started to develop just during the last years. The present work was carried out at Pure Horticultural Research Centre, Latvia, during 2008 – 2009. Frigo A grade strawberry plants imported from the Netherlands and local fresh dug strawberry plants were planted on two-row beds mulched by white plastic with black lower side (white on black) or without mulch. Cultivars ‘Polka’, ‘Elsanta’ and ‘Honeoye’ were tested. Split-block design with four replicates was used for the trial. Plant phenological development, productivity and fruit quality were evaluated. Frigo A grade strawberry plants significantly prolonged strawberry production season in the planting year while the obtained marketable yield was low, on average 62 g mE-2 or 20 g plantE-1. The yield increased in the next growing year, and it was higher than for the traditional fresh dug plants. Using of white on black plastic mulch increased the yield and fruit size. ‘Polka’ was the most productive between the tested cultivars.
