The article analyses the visual image of housing in the pictures of two Latvian illustrated magazines “Deko” and “Ievas Māja”. The aim of study is to find out similar and different features in the pictures of housing in two magazines oriented toward a similar readership. The theoretical base is made to according theories developed by Jean Baudrillard, Gunther Kress and Theo van Leeuwen on the opportunities of interpreting the symbolic meaning of housing. The analyses method is content analyses; it covers 767 pictures in a three year period. The results show similar tendencies in the presentation of housing in both magazines with little important difference (gender aspect). In general that reflects the orientation on consumer society values in both magazines, pointing out individual comfort and less attention is paid to children and family concerns in housing consumption.
