An incubation experiment was set up in order to determine the mineralization potential of different organic materials (OM) (FYM, rotted farmyard manure; G, guano; S, ground soybean seed; P, ground forage pea seed), kinetics of mineral nitrogen (N) release and correlation between the chemical composition of OMs and the amount of mineralized N. The highest mineralization rate constant k (0.127 dˉ¹) and net mineralization rate constants (NM) (76.37% of total applied N) were found with G and lowest k (0.098 dˉ¹) and NM (30.12% of total applied N) with FYM. Negative linear correlation was found between NM of organic materials and C/N ratio (r = -0.97*), and a positive linear correlation between Nm and total N content in OM (r = -0.99*). The effect that the chemical composition of OMs has on their mineralization needs to be taken into account when calculating the doses and time of application, in order to regulate nitrate content in the plants and control the amount of residual mineral N in the soil at the end of vegetation.
