During the years 2003 - 2004 an experiment was conducted on the field of the Department of Horticulture at the Agricultural University in Plovdiv, aimed at determining the planting scheme of field pepper grown with drip irrigation. The following variants of two- and three-row planting were studied with a respective feeding area: 0.12 m2 schemed at 1.10 + 0.50 x 0.15 m - the control; 0.16 m2 at 1.10 + 0.50 x 0.20 m; 0.08 m2 at 0.80 + 0.40 + 0.40 x 0.15 m; 0.12 m2 at 0.80 + 0.40 + 0.40 x 0.20 m. The soil profile of the experiment was a raised bed and the size of the experimental plot was 8.48 m2. The experiment was carried out with the Kurtovska kapiya pepper cultivar at a N12 P12 K12 fertilizer rate, the phosphorus and potassium fertilizers being incorporated into the soil during tillage and the nitrogen fertilizer - in the form of feeding twice during vegetation. At the end of May - beginning of June, 55-60-day non-pricked seedlings were planted. The following generative and vegetative features were studied: characteristics of the stems, characteristics of the leaves, overall mass of the plant, early yield, overall yield and characteristics of the fruit. It was found out that the plants with a more vigorous vegetative growth were the ones grown under the two-row scheme, at planting spaces of 0.20 m. Better fruit setting and bigger fruits resulted from the 1.10 + 0.50 x 0,20 m scheme (variant 2). The highest yield of green and red pepper was obtained when applying a three-row planting scheme, the superiority over the control being 36 percent to 56 percent.
