In generally, soil buffering capacity is defined as ability to buffer acids and alkali adding to the soil. It represents very important soil characteristic and could be used for many purposes (e.g. agricultural practice and ecology). The main goal of our work was to provide parameterization and classification of buffering capacity in the topsoil because it is still missing. Our contribution gave comparison of buffering capacity in Chernozems and Regosols at nine selected localities in the Czech Republic. Buffering capacity was evaluated by the quantitative parameters (= cm2) as follows: a) buffering against acids adding (AP); b) buffering against alkali adding (BP); and c) sum of buffering (TP). Qualitative parameters were: a) acid- basic index of buffering (ABIP); and b) total acid-basic index of buffering (ATIP). Also selected soil properties such as soil reaction (pH/H2O, pH/KCl), texture, Cox, Q4/6 and carbonates content were taken into consideration. Results showed low buffering capacity against acids in Regosols. On the other hand Chernozems had high buffering capacity against acids. Chernozems also showed high buffering capacity against alkali.
