The study solves the problem of the classification of Paleosols in the Czech Republic: can they be implemented into the current classification or do they require an independent classification system? In the first stage, position of Paleosols in different classification systems was tested. Second part of the study presents results from karst areas and the development of soils on limestone. The applied set of methods includes the determination of chemical properties soils, soil organic matter, particle size distribution and macromorphological and micromorphological characteristics. We propose to supplement the present classification system for soils in the Czech Republic by three reference groups which would involve Paleosols. One reference group is proposed to be reserved for terra fusca and terra rossa soil types, another one for braunlehm and rotlehm, and the third one for ferretto.
