Population dynamics aspects of giant snake-head fish, Channa micropeltes in Kwan Phayao

Population dynamics Aspects of giant snakehead fish (Channa micropeltes) population in Kwan Phayao was analyzed from catchments data. The catchments were observed and recorded from 4 areas of fish landing during October 2009-August 2010 by investigating 425 fish samples. The growth rate (K), instantaneous total mortality coefficient (Z), recruitment to catch rate and exploitation rate (E) which were analyzed by FiSAT programe (FAO-ICLARM Stock Assessment Tools) were observed to be 1.02 per year, 3.15 per year, 244,152 individuals and 0.54, respectively. The study reviewed that, the catchment of snakehead fish was under the Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) and over Maximum Economical Yield (MEY). The most urgent fishery management measures in this reservoir should be taken to control of total amount of fishing effort in accordance with the stock size of fishery resources.
