Copper adsorption by Alluvial-meadow soils influenced by long-term mineral fertilization at surface loadings 62.5 – 2000 mg/kg was studied. The control non-fertilised variants exhibit increased adsorption capacity for copper to 1000 – 2000 mg/kg. Higher values of the distribution coefficient Kd reflecting higher surface affinity for copper were also obtained. The variants with mineral nutrition are subjected to acidification, accompanied by further decrease in pH as a result of Cu adsorption and hydrolysis in the solution. Cu adsorption maximum was observed with the most fertilised soil T3, while with the B3 soil of the highest mineral fertilizer application a curvilinear relationship was obtainened at the highest adsorption level of 2000 mg/kg. The anthropogenically affected soils show a high Cu buffering capacity, which is however limited by lower levels of added adsorbed Cu 500 – 1000 mg/kg. Higher adsorption levels can lead to copper being released in the soil solution.
