Cation exchange capacity and exchangeable cations are important indicators for soil genesis and agrochemical characteristics. The aim of present paper is to test applicability of alternative material to improve soil characteristics in acid environment and contaminated with heavy metals area in Bulgaria. The research was made with natural zeolite material. The incubation experiment was carried out to characterize zeolite as a non-dangerous and applicable for improving soil quality. The results of physicochemical analyses show that there is no significant change in the chemical properties in soils with used meliorate.
