Carbohydrate metabolism of animals determines intensity of metabolism of the whole organism, because carbohydrates appear one of the most important energy sources of living body. Interconversion of proteins, carbohydrates and fats can vary greatly depending on animal age and housing conditions. The article studies the dynamics of indices of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism of pigs while rearing them at large industrial enterprises. Glucose and lactic acid content is evaluated; total lipid composition along with blood cholesterol of pigs is analyzed. The research shows that within the first 60 days of living the level of glucose, lipids, triglycerides and cholesterol decreases, and the level of lactic acid increases. The most critical periods in respect of glucose insufficiency are 80 day age and 105 day age of pigs. At the age of 180 days the indices of carbohydrate metabolism as well as lipid metabolism decrease.
