Effect of some viable microorganisms on Nile tilapia , Oreochromis niloticus. performance

The present study was carried out to evaluate the effects of probiotics on growth ýperformance, feed utilization and survival rate of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) ýduring the period from June to September 2011. A total number of 120 fish was randomly ýdivided into four main groups (each containing 30 fish); the 1. t` group was fed on a diet ýwithout any supplementation bacterial, the 2. d , 3 rd and 4th groups were fed on a diet ýsupplemented with Lactobacillus acidophilus or Streptococcus thermophilus or ýBifidobacterium bifiduim (1 ml/100 g diet), respectively. The obtained results could be ýsummarized as follows: Fish group which fed on a diet supplemented with Lactobacillus ýacidophilus recorded significantly (P0.05 and 0.01) the highest live body weight at most ýof the experimental periods when compared with the other fish groups. In general, the ýdiet supplemented with Lactobacillus acidophilus achieved the best values for daily ýweight gain and specific growth rate followed by Bifidobacterium bifiduim. Survival rate ýwas insignificantly higher with the probiotic treatments as compared with the control ýgroup. Feed intake was significantly (P0.05 and 0.01) higher in the treatment containing ýLactobacillus acidophlus during most of the experimental periods in comparison with the ýother fish groups. Also, the same fish group recorded the best feed conversion ratio ýý(FCR) during the most experimental periods. Final margin increased by 55.68% in fish ýgroup fed on a diet supplemented with Lactobacillus acidophilus as compared with the ýcontrol fish group. Based on the obtained results in the present study it could be ýconcluded that, using Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria resulted in the best performance ýfinal profit margin.ý
