Un puissant outil d'amelioration des parcours : le parcage nocturne.

français. Le parcage des ovins sur nardaie et callunaie est étudié dans la région volcanique des Monts Dômes à 1000 m d’altitude. Il améliore la composition botanique pour plus de 5 ans. En régime de pâture, l’amélioration de la production s’estompe après la 6e année ; les apports d’éléments par le parc sont chiffrés à 195 kg N, 19 kg P, 114 kg K, 28 kg Ca et 10 kg Mg/ha pour une intensité de parcage de une nuit de brebis/m2 (1 nb/m2). Pour une nardaie qui subit un premier parcage à 2 nb/m2, les taux apparents de valorisation de ces éléments dans la production épigée sont respectivement de 55, 64, 86, 70 et 65 p. 100. L’indice de valeur pastorale ne réagit pas à l’augmentation du potentiel productif selon l’équilibre habituel entre les 2 termes (fig. 5) : la composition botanique montre d’abord une résistance (1er forme de l’inertie), puis une réaction atténuée et différée au changement ( 2e forme de l’inertie). La stratégie de parcage tous les 4 ans utilise la 2e forme de l’inertie de la composition botanique pour vaincre la première. La nardaie produisant 2,4 t MS/ha/an est transformée en 12-15 ans en pelouse à trèfle blanc produisant 3,8 à 7,1 t MS/ha et l’amélioration concerne 15 p. 100 de la surface totale du parcours. Le pâturage tournant valorise mieux l’ensemble des surfaces mais l’amélioration botanique est insuffisante car la trop faible concentration des animaux ne permet pas de vaincre l’inertie de la composition botanique.

anglais. The folding of sheep on Nardus and Calluna upland pastures was studied in the volcanic region of the Monts Domes at 1000 m. a.s. It improved botanical composition for more than 5 years. Under grazing conditions, the improvement of production stopped after the 6th year. The supply of chemical elements by the fold attained 195 kg N, 19 kg P, 114 kg K, 28 kg Ca and 10 kg Mg/ha for an intensity of folding of 1 ewe-night/m2 (1 en/m2). For a Nardus pasture which undergoes a 1st folding at 2 en/m2, the apparent rates of appearance of these elements in the above-ground production were respectively 55, 64, 86, 70 and 65 %. The pasture value index did not react to the increased potential of productivity in accordance with the usual equilibrium between the 2 terms (fig. 5). Botanical composition first showed a resistance to the change (1st form of inertia), then a weak delayed reaction (2nd form of inertia). The strategy of folding every 4 years utilizes the 2nd form of botanical inertia in order to overcome the 1st form. The Nardus pasture yielding 2.4 t DM/ha/year is changed to a white clover pasture yielding 3.8 to 7.1 t/DM/ha/year, the improvement only affecting 15 % of the total area of the pasture. Rotational grazing makes better use of the area as a whole but the botanical improvement is insufficient because the small concentration of the animals does not allow botanical inertia to be overcome.
