In order to study the morphology, yield and essential oil of some species of Thymus, an experiment applied in south of Gilan province during 2008 . First of all the species of thymus were collected in different habites and identified. Endemic and exotic species were planted in nursery area in Rasht station.. Experiment was carried out in a split plot under randomized complete block design with three replications. Maine plots consisted of four species of Thymus including T. vulgaris T. kotschyanus T. pubescens and. T. caucasicus and Subplots consisted of there level of diameter (25, 35 and 50 cm ). Diameter of crown, high plant, number of stem, stem and biological yield and also essential oil percent and yield were measured. The results showed that diameter of crown, high plant, number of stem, stem and biological yield and oil yield had significant differences in Thymus species (a= 0.01). Finally The Thymus pubescens due to most dry matter yield and essential oil yield and T. kotschysnus for most essential oil percent could be introduced in dry land farming of Gillan province Key words: dry land farming, density, Thymus species.
