Quaternary deposits, water resources development and conservation(collection of case studies) (Volume III)

Almost half of the country of Iran is covered by quaternary deposits. These areas are considered as a principal component for development because of forming flat terraind which are suitable for agricultural activities and urban/rural area develeopements and civilization.One may use knowledge on quaternary deposits and their physical, social and economical for precise land suitability and capability mapping in order to optimum use of lands. Review of literatures about quaternary deposits in the world and particularly in Iran in terms of importance and characteristics were investigated in this study. Quaternary deposits are investigated from process, types, distribution and suitability for flood spreading and groundwater recharge points of view and a few case studies related to site selection for flood spreading on these sediments are presented. Iidentification and descriptionof sediment environment and sedimentology of Loses, wind deposits and coastal sands as well as their spatial distribution in Iran has gotten a great attention in this research. Since civilization and industries are being developed on quaternary deposits, therefore an attempt was made to evaluate engineering and tectonical characteristics of these deposits as well as occurrence of seismic faults in these areas. For doing this, a unique sample database is created based on the geotechnical data of capital Tehran and some thematic maps such as legal bearing capability zonation map of Tehran city is prepared by making use of this database. Documents, maps and results of this research is categorized in three volume as follows; 1- Quaternary deposits in Iran (with emphasis on distribution, types and engineering characteristics) 2- Capabilities of quaternary deposits for floodwater spreading in 8 main river basins. 3- Quaternary deposits, water resources development and conservation (collection of case studies)
