Evaluation of yield and other agronomic traits in sesame current and newly introduced cultivars in Mazandran

In order to determine the superior sesame genotypes for suitable agronomic traits including early maturity, tolerance to disease and also having high yield potential and adapted to climate condition of Khazar beach, 8 genotypes including 5 breeding lines and check cultivars (multy branching Naz, Oltan and Yekta) were evaluated in randomized complete block design with 4 replications at Hossein Abad and Zaghemarz in 2011. The results of combined analysis of variance indicated significant difference among the genotypes for plant height, growth period, seed yield, stem diameter and 1000-seed weight at 1%probability level. Inter action effects of location × genotypes mean squares were also significant for all the traits except 1000-seed weight at 1% probability level. Means comparison for seed yield showed that line 9 related to design with number of 85186, line 2 related to design with number of 86182 with seed yield of 861.5, 750 and 662.5 kg/ ha were classified the same statistical group and also had not significant difference from the check varieties including multy branching Naz, Oltan and Yekta. Inter action effects of location × genotypes mean comparison for seed yield revealed that multy branching Naz was the superior genotype and classified as A group andline 9 related to design with number of 85186, line 2 related to design with number of 85182, line 2 related to design with number of 86182 with seed yield of 861.5, 750 and 662.5 kg/ ha were classified the same statistical group and also had not significant difference from the check varieties. At Zaghemarz, all of the genotypes except line 2 related to design with number of 86182 with seed yield of 458.4 kg/ha were classified as B group. In general followed by multy branching Naz, line 9 related to design with number of 85186 can be suitable for cultivation in Mazandaran province.
