The project was implemented to be able to produce quality-planting materials of 14 selected promising germplasm accessions of Jatropha curcas and conducted a performance evaluation of the said selections in identified sites in Laguna [Philippines]. This was accomplished by multiplying first the promising selections in an established nursery in UPLB. Performance evaluation was done on the materials at the Central Experiment Station of UPLB and in Lumban, Laguna with the Laguna Biofuels Development Cooperative (Laguna Biofuels) where the jatropha selections have been established. Seedling orchards and nurseries were similarly established in the said sites. The package of technology used under the DOST-PCAARRD assisted project on the Development of Production System of Jatropha curcas was used for the establishment and maintenance of the seed orchard. Intercropping with squash, okra, sitao and peanut was done during the initial growing period of the jatropha plants in Lumban. Analysis of oil properties showed that the oil content of the seed ranged from 23-56 percent using analytical method. Morphological characteristics showed variations on tree characteristics such as tree vigor, trunk surface, growth habit, branching pattern and density and number of branches. No variation was observed on main stem pubescence, i.e. all are glabrous, and trunk peeling. Little or no variation was observed on the leaf characters.
