Germination percentage a marker for the selection among diverse genotypes of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill)

World's population is augmenting day by day, so there is a dire need to find out the high yielding genotypes not only for cereals but also horticultural crops including vegetables. Vegetables are the vital component of our daily diet so this sector can not be ignored. Among all vegetables, tomato occupies a significant position. Therefore, present investigation was planned to evaluate the germination behavior of desired tomato genotypes. Thirteen parents and twenty one successful crosses along with two commercial hybrids (Jurry and Saahil) were sown in a walking tunnel to determine germination percentage in tomato. Analysis of variance depicted that a significant differences exists between all tested genotypes regarding germination percentage and vigour index among the tomato genotypes.
