The study consisted of two experiments that were carried out during 2012-13 at the agricultural stations of Gonbad. In the first experiment, 80 F2 from cereal division of Plant and Seed Improvement Institute, 27 F3, 5 F4 and 2 F2 were included. During selection, all the plants were examined carefully and 10 to 20 plants with desirable characters from F2 were selected and one or two heads were selected from every plants and bulked together. After threshing heads based on desirable characters of the grain, some of them were culled and 49 lines were selected for the following generation. The second experiment, preliminary yield trial, consisted of 365 lines, every treatment was sown in six three-meter long rows with plot width of 1.2 meters. There were four checks; Sahra, Zahak, WB-88-16 and WB-89-5. Take nothings such as Helminthosporium, powdery mildew intensity, plant height, lodging percent, heading and maturity date and 1000 seed weight and grain yield were done during the season. 108 lines out yielded the local check. These lines had a higher resistance to the diseases therefore these 108 lines were selected for using in the PBYT-t. Key words: barley, generations, line, segregation, yield.
