Efficiency of imidacloprid SC350 (Behfidor)on cucurbit aphid Brevicoryne brassicae (L.)

Cabbage aphid is one of the most important pests of cruciferous plants, to which it causes direct damage and also transfers some viral pathogens. Foliage application of insecticides is a common control method of this pest. In this kind of plants, because of waxy leaves, most of the spray volume does not stay on the plant. In this research, the efficacy of both imidacloprids (Confidor® SC350 and Behfidor®SC350) in two concentrations (300 and 150 ppm), and check (without treatment) were studied in a cauliflower field. The cabbage aphid populations of treated plots were recorded 2, 5, 9, 13, 23 and 34 days after treatment. This experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design with 7 treatments and 4 replications. At the application time, cauliflowers were at 4- to 5-leaf stage. The results showed that the imidacloprid treatments at 300 ppm had the highest efficacy at 13 days after treatment (80%). The efficacy of Confidor® SC350 was not different from efficacy of Behfidor® during the days after treatment. Treatments of insecticidal soap and pymetrozine could not control cabbage aphid population by just one application in the field.
