Studying the nutritive value of whole sugar cane silage at different harvesting intervals.

This research was conducted to study the nutritive value of whole sugar cane forage and its silage at different vegetation stages. Two varieties of sugar cane were studied including early maturity (CP57) and late maturity (CP48). The treatments were 14 vegetation intervals for each type of sugar cane. Two fields from each type were selected for sampling. Sampling was carried out every 15 days began from 24th of May (15th Ordibehesht) until 2nd of November (30th of Aban). At each sampling time, samples were collected for chemical analysis (DM, CP, ASH, NDF, ADF, WSC, ADL, DMD, OMD, DOMD) and some part was chopped for making silage and also total production of forage per hectare was calculated after measuring the DM content of samples. Silages were analyzed for DM, CP and pH. Results showed that, DM, water soluble sugars and total forage production was increased (p0.05) with maturity and a significant difference was observed between the two varieties. The content of CP, ASH, ADF and NDF was decreased by maturity and a significant difference was observed between the two types of sugar cane. Digestibility of DM and OM and also DOMD was increased by increasing the age (P0.05) for two types of sugar cane. The DM content of sugarcane silages was increased by increasing the age (p0.05) but the values for CP and pH had a declining trend in the two types of sugarcane (p0.05).
