The unit of kcal/min as physical load indicator unit has been broadly used. However, comparing physical load among different individuals by applying this unit may result in bias conclusion. Avoiding this bias, the use of %VO2max (percentage of oxygen uptake maximum) as physical load indicator unit was proposed. The unit was derived from a comparative measurement meyhod accomodated difference on characteristics of each individual on load measurement. To make the measurement method applicable, an alternative method employing HR (heart rate) as primary data was examined in altering conventional methods (indirect calorimetric) commonly used for oxygen uptake estimation. Further, fairness on the use of %VO2 max against kcal/min as physical load indicator units, and effectiveness of alternative compared to conventional methods were examined. The results showed that %VO2max offered fair measurement in comparing physical load among individuals involved in the same physical activity. Further, indicated by results of degree of agreement analysis (95% limit of different, between the mean difference +- 1.96SD), the alternative method can be interchangeably with the conventional method. It was concluded that the alternative physical load measurement method has superiority on simple measurement method, fair judgement and good accurancy on its estimation.
