Penan Communities of Long Iman and Baru Bungan were among the first to stan documenting their traditional knowledge through a programme initiated by the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC). Since rhe project began in 2002, both communities have documented how they use plant resources for medicine, food, handicrafts and other purposes. Some of the plants were collected and replanted to ensure the survival of these plants. This paper provides baseline information of plant resources used by Penan communities of Long Iman and Bam Bungan for food. At the same time, the paper also attempts to share their experiences, hopes and aspirations as they participate in the documentation programme. Besides presenting the method that they practise, this paper will feature examples of how the Penan communities conserve and transmit their traditional knowledge.
