Bulbous plants and in vitro micropropagation | Soğanlı bitkiler ve in vitro hızlı çoğaltım

Bulbous plants (geophytes) have an important place for genetic biodiversity of Turkey and have a great potential in perfume, pharmaceuticals with alkaloids and ornamental with beautiful flowers. The annual income derived from exported bulbous plants has been reached approximately 5 million TL in Turkey. A significant amount of geophytes collected from natural habitat are exported and the risk of disappearance of the some geophytes has been increased. These geophytes are classified in different stages of endangered plant species. Because of duration from the sowing to the flowering for 4-5 years or formation of the sterile seeds, in vitro tissue culture methods offer some advantages for propagation of geophytes. The last researches on in vitro micropropagation of geophytes showed that about a hundred bulblets can be produced from just a bulb depending on species. The techniques will not only meet demands of these plants but will also reduce risks of their disappearance due to their unauthorized collection from wild flora.

Ülkemiz biyoçeşitliliğinde önemli bir yere sahip olan ve geofit olarak adlandırılan soğanlı bitkiler, içermiş oldukları alkoloidler ve sahip oldukları güzel çiçeklerden dolayı süs bitkisi, parfümeri ve ilaç sanayinde önemli bir potansiyele sahiptir. Türkiye'den ihraç edilen soğanlı bitkilerden elde edilen yıllık gelir yaklaşık 5 milyon TL'dir. Geofitlerin büyük bir çoğunluğu doğadan sökülerek ihraç edilmektedir. Ancak bilinçsiz ve aşırı miktarda yapılan sökümler sonucu bu bitkilerin büyük bir çoğunluğunun nesli tükenme tehlikesi altında olup, değişik tehlike sınıflarında yer almaktadırlar. Geofitlerin bazılarının tohum bağlayamaması bazılarınınsa çiçek açabilecek büyüklüğe gelebilmeleri için 4-5 yıla ihtiyaç duymaları nedeniyle in vitro hızlı çoğaltım bu bitkilerin çoğaltımında alternatif bir yöntem olabilmektedir. Son yıllarda geofitlerle ilgili yapılan in vitro çalışmalarda bir soğandan türüne göre değişmekle birlikte 100' den fazla yavru soğan elde edilmiştir. İn vitro hızlı çoğaltımın rutin olarak pratikte kullanılmasıyla hem bu bitkilere olan talepler karşılanmış olacak, hem de bu bitkilerin doğadan aşırı sökümleri neticesinde nesillerinin tehlike altına girmesi engellenebilecektir.
