Malnutrition issue is vital in Pakistan. Low purchasing power, large household size, low education and large number of dependents are the main factors affecting food poverty or malnutrition. Food poverty had different dimensions in urban and rural household set ups. Generally in rural areas, frequency of malnutrition and food poverty was more pronounced as compared to urban areas. This study had been planned to identify the causes of poverty and malnutrition in Pakistan. The data about daily food expenditures, household size, landholding, and dependency ratio and education level of 81 households of three villages of District Faisalabad were collected through a field survey.
