This paper deals with the issue of implementation and certification of quality management systems in the conditions of wood processing industryin Slovakia and the Czech Republic. It presents the results of the current status in using the ISO 9000 standards through which the quality management systems (QMS) can be implemented. Additionally, it monitors the advantages and disadvantagesc of QMS and their individual components in the conditions of wood processing industry with the aim to ensure a higher efficiency in the whole sector. There were methods of analysis and synthesis of data, correlation analysis and questionnaire survey used in the paper. The results point out that there is an extremely high formality in implementation of QMS
