Study on the methods of dormancy breaking of moonflower seeds by scarification was conducted at laboratory room 505, Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University Bangkhen Campus during June to August 2010. The experiment was designed in completely randomized design (CRD) that composed of 7 treatments: 1) untreated seeds (control), 2) clipping, 3) scarified by sandpaper, 4) scarified by scarifier (75 rpm), 5) dipping in 98 percent H2SO4 for 10 seconds, 6) soaking in 98 percent H2SO4 for 1 minute, and 7) soaking in water at 80 deg C for 15 minutes. The results showed that all of the methods can break dormancy of moonflower seeds, except soaking the seeds in water at 80 deg C for 15 minutes. The clipping and scarified seeds by sandpaper gave the highest germination (100 and 98 percent, respectively), shortest mean germination time and highest germination index when compared with untreated seeds (control) (42 percent germination).
