Distribution of endemic fish species in Eastern Herzegovina

Fish represent significant component of total biodiversity and are indicators of the state of aquatic habitats. Of particular importance are the endemic species that usually have a small and limited distribution and represent a valuable genetic resource. This paper reviews the distribution of endemic minnows Telestes metohiensis and Delminichthys ghetaldii in Eastern Herzegovina, including a number of watercourses in the region. The results showed that striped pijor (Telestes metohiensis) was present at a number of sites and has a wider range, unlike Delminichthys ghetaldii which was found in a few investigated sites.
