Evaluation of adaptability and yield stability in some rice varieties in central Vietnam

The objective of this research was to evaluate the adaptability and yield stability of a number of new short days varieties in the South Central Coastal provinces. The research was done continuously for 3 seasons (winter-spring from 2011-2013, the summer-autumn 2012 and winter- Spring 2012-2013) and was arranged in the 3 provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen. Results showed that all 9 varieties belong to extremely short days and short days groups with the growth period ranging from 90 to 115 days in the winter-spring and 82-102 days in the summer-autumn crop, matching well with the structure of the crop in the South Central Coast. Special arrangement can be sown 3 seasons/year for very short day varieties such as MT18cs. These varieties had a rather high and stable yield. The actual yield io the winter-spring season 2012 - 2013 varied from 52.8 to 70.9 quintals/ha, ML54 had the highest yield, then PYJ, PY2 and MT18. P6-B had the lowest yield. The actual yield in the summcr-autumn crop in 2012 was from 51.8 to 66.8 quintals/ha, ML54 had the highest yield, then PY2, ML232 and PY1. P6-B had the lowest yield. Evaluate the yiled Stabilyti based on the regression coeficient (bi) and deviation froin regression line ($2di) in the spring and the summer-autumn showed that in the winter-spring crop PY1 , MT18 , H229 , LTH134 , ML54 , P6DB Q.Nam 6 rice varieties had stablc yields. PY2 yielded stability in a favorable environmemt, with hjghly intensive conditions; ML232 yielded unstablely. in the summer-autumn crop, PY1 , MT18 , H229 , LTH134 , ML54 , ML232 , Q.Nam 6, P6DB rice varieties had stable yields while PY2 yielded unstably.
