Some factors affect on the quantity of rejuvenating coffee plantation in Dak Lak

Coffee is one of the important industrial crops in the economic development in Highland of Vietnam. However, development of coffee in this region is facing with many problems such as irrigating water, soil quality and cultivation technology, particularly coffee rejuvenation. A survey on 260 plantations of young rejuvenating coffee in 4 districts of Dak Lak was carried out in 2011-2012. The results showed that fallow after cutting down coffee plants is a strong factor affecting on the coffee rejuvenation. The longer duration of fallow, the more successful for rejuvenation. In fact, after fallow 2-3 years, coffee plantations are good performaton. Some criteria which are needed for sustainable coffee rejuvenation include soil depth, soil organic carbon (OC). Soils which have a depth at least of 70 cm for ferrasol soil dirved on basaltic rock and 100 cm for grey soil, contain at least of 2% OC for basaltic rock and 1.5% oc for grey soil are suitable for sustainable coffee rejuvenation in Dak Lak province. However, cultivation should follow the correct guideline of technology The content of exchange able Ca2+, Mg2+ in the soil on good plantations are higher than that in bad plantations. Water infiltration in the soil under poor plantation is soil comparness in healthy plantation is higher in poor plantation. Water infiltration in the soil under poor plantation is much lower than that in healthy platations. In good plantations was found higher amount of micro-organ and me and lower amount of methods than that in poor plantations.
