Foreign Trade in Sugar (HS1701) and Sugar Containing Products (HS17) - Comparison of the Czech and Slovak Republic During the Last Two Decades

Czechoslovakia in history time was one of the major producers and traders of sugar and products containing sugar in the World. Subsequent developments after the disintegration of the common state led to a number of significant changes that have contributed to the transformation, nowadays the Czech and Slovak sugar industry to the fact that these changes are reflected in production and trade. Export and import of sugar in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia recorded during the reporting period 1993 to 2013 the increase in financial terms. The same situation was in the product mix sugar and products containing sugar. The Czech Republic has achieved the highest growth rate for the period 1994 to 2013 from the countries of the EU-15, and in financial terms as well as in quantitative terms. Slovakia achieved the highest growth rate for the period 1994 to 2013 from the 15 EU countries as well as with the countries of the EU-12 and with the 28 EU countries together. In evaluating the development of the trade balance in terms of territorial structure analyzed in both countries, the significant increase of the trade balance was recorded with the countries of the EU-28.
