An Analysis of Garlic and Onion Storage Companies 'Characteristics Affecting Decision on the Cold Storage Period

Decision making on cold storage schedule of agricultural products is one of the important issue in industry because the decision directly effects on distribution companies' profit. This study tries to analyze factors affecting the cold storage warehousing schedules of garlics and onions. For the analysis, this study uses LOGIT model with outputs from investigations on 207 storage companies of garlic and onion in Jeonnam-Do, Gyeongbuk-Do and Gyeongnam-Do. From the analysis, factors affecting on onions storage schedule are regional characteristics, storage capacity, construction year, and distribute to wholesalers. In other hand, factors affecting on garlic storage schedule are storage capacity, construction year, location, taking subsidy, and distribute to processors. Since the cold storage warehousing schedules of garlics and onions differ by regions and companies, government should pay attention on the study's finding when applying supply and price control policies on agricultural products.
