Assessment of host range of Meloidogyne incognita in most prevalent flower plants

The root-knot nematodes are most widespread and economically important. Ornamental and flower plants are severely affected by plant parasitic nematodes showing symptoms of serious injuries in roots and shoots. So, present study was carried out to investigate the host range of root-knot nematode. For this purpose infected roots of mulberry tree by (Meloidogyne incognita) were collected from vegetable research area University of Agriculture Faisalabad and applied on susceptible variety of tomato for inoculum development in research area of Department of Plant Pathology, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Host range of (Meloidogyne incognita) was checked by using Petunia, Pansy, Stock, Salvia, Nasturtium, Gamolepsis, Calendula, and Dahlia as winter flowers. After infection, data was recorded from these different species of flowers as number of nematode eggs produced per plant and number of hatched mobile juveniles J2 produced per plant and resistant varieties were assessed after statistical analysis. Nasturtium showed highly susceptible response as well as Stock showed highly resistant response against root knot nematodes. In the present investigation, the efficacy of different concentrations of Faline, Axiom and Vampire was evaluated. 1% Fline can be successfully used for the management of root knot nematodes.
