Effect of water stress on capsaicin contents of hot pepper

The research was conducted in order to identify agronomic and physiological features which can be used for description of drought effect in pots. The research was conducted in vegetable area of the Institute of Horticultural Sciences, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Seeds of Indian chili seed ISH 54 genotype were sown in plastic pots using soil, farm yard manure and leave manure as growth medium. After 40 days, water treatments 1000 ml (control), 800 ml, 600 ml, 400 ml & 200 ml were applied except control. The research was arranged out in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five replications. Data pertaining to various agronomic and physiological parameters were collected and analyzed statistically using standard statistical procedures. The results showed that drought had negative association with almost all agronomic characters like seed germination, plant height, number of leaves per plant, branches per plant, number of fruit per plant, weight of fruits per plant, fruit weight, and physiological characters the capsaicinoids, dehydrocapsaicin and nonivamide.
