Parent's attitude towards increasing child labour in the rural areas of district Jhang

A child is an asset of a nation. It is through children that mankind transmits its values, knowledge and skills. In this manner, in the event that we contribute on children today, it has reflected in the form of a better generation tomorrow. But children are among the most neglected segmented of the developing countries, due to poor economic conditions and demographic changes. Like all other developing countries, the problem of child labour is also found in Pakistan. Most of population of Pakistan lives in rural areas. Children of rural areas are more engaged in child labour than the children of the urban areas. The rural community of Pakistan has less opportunity of education and furthermore the parents of children are less literate and have not sufficient resources to tend their children to schools. These are major factors which push the children towards child labour to earn income for the contribution to the resources of family. Present research was conducted to analyze the role of parent's attitude towards child labour increasing in the rural areas of District Jhang. The children working in different industries and households in the city area mostly belong to rural areas of district Jhang. A sample of 160 respondents (parents) was selected through purposive sampling technique from the different industries of Jhang, which belong to the rural areas. Software Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) for drawing the conclusions and the recommendation was formulated based on the study results. Major findings of the present study are Majority of the respondent's that more males are affected due to child labour then females. Majority of the respondents told that lack of education is the root cause of child labour. Most of the people also were feeling shame in front of public due to their children working as labour many parents also feel that child labour is not dangerous for their personality building and their children did not get any injury during working hours.
