The paper gives an overview of the research results regarding profitability of glue laminated timber (GLT) production in Serbia and selected countries of the European Union. The selection of glue laminated timber for the research object of this paper is the result of a continuous growth of its consumption and increasing application in the construction of ecological and energy-efficient residential and non-residential buildings in Europe, and in recent years in Serbia. For the purposes of determining the production profitability level for the above product were carried out complex investigations that included the sphere of the economic effects of production and sales price. Research results have shown that in the cost structure of 1 m3 of glued laminated timber the largest share have the raw material costs in the amount of 61.3 to 68.1% (depending on the manufacturer), while the share of production costs is in the range 21.6 to 27.7% and for the glue 10.2% (one-component) to 11.0% (two- component). Calculated average profitability was 28.5% compared to the sales price which this product classified in the category of highly profitable wood products. In addition to previous mentioned the paper also proves that the coefficient of valorisation of sawn timber embedded in the glue laminated timber is increased by 4.9 times compared to the sale as a classic sawn timber.
