There is an increasing market demand for alternative crops such as spelt wheat (Triticum aestivum ssp. spelta), an ancient, hulled with high nutritional values which encourages agroecogical production systems. In spite of considering spelt generally more tolerant due to its biological ana agronomical proper- ties, many enviromental factors, including phytopathogen mycobiota might demage its quality. The importance of Alternaria spp. is associated with both, yield losses and reduction of trade technological quality of small grains. Moreover, some of Alternaria spp. have high toxigenic potential and can be harmful for human and animal health. After inocultaion of three spelt genotypes (Nirvana, Austria and Ostro) with Alternaria spp. in field and fungicide treatment, effect of different genotypes and treatments on trade quality properties were evaluated. The average hectolitar mass (74,2-74,52 kg/hl), 1000 kernel weight (39,60-42,45 g) and size of kernels (32,95-36,63%) were statistically significantly lower in untreated variants, compared to fungicide treated variants. Black point disease significantly reduced trade quality of spelt, which indicates that adequate fungicide application against Alternaria spp. is justified from the aspect of the good agriculture practise and food safety.
