The goal of this study is to use plant modeling for the visualization of landscape changes between 1981 and 2000 in urban fringes area near Bangkok. Because urban fringes are changing very fast, it is very important to be able to map the changes of the landscape and to understand the farmers behaviors. The first part of the work is classical in remote sensing and geographic information system: a visual interpretation is done on aerial photographies and maps are created for 3 different years. Then this 2D information layers are brought into AMAP, a 3D visualization environment. Images are computed for different important strategic locations and for each date, in order to show the impact on the landscape of new policies and new farmers behaviors. We show that the main change is turning from paddy field to fish pond with mango trees and palm trees on the border. Visualization and simulation tools are a key issue for planners in these peri-urban agriculture areas with a lot of economic, social and development pressures. (Résumé d'auteur)
