Under the project Improvement of quality and controlling the quality of African natural rubber, numerous documents have already been published on the quality approach taking in this project. Worth mentioning are the SAR manuals describing the specifications and procedures for analyzing African rubber. A label has thus been created and acknowledged on an international level. Likewise, a guide has been published on rubber collection and processing, providing recommendations on the ways of producing natural rubber crumb in the factories of the Sub-Region. This document fits in with the general regulations that must be respected by a central testing laboratory in order for it to be recognized as such. This document concentrates on technical aspects and does not cover either the organization of central laboratories or the qualifications and training of their staff. Apart from know-how, we shall particularly concentrate on the premises in which the different analyses will be carried out and on the environments of those premises. In a second section, we endeavor to fist the equipment used in all the laboratories, and indicate how they are calibrated and maintained. First and foremost, this document sets out to be practical, hence usable and consultable by anybody at any time in each of the laboratories. It results from wide-ranging experience of the use of such equipment at production sites by a certain number of production factory laboratory managers. (Résumé d'auteur)
