Recognizing the limited scholarly work on the communicative dimensions of resilience so far, scholars have called for a communicative approach to resilience. Particularly, Buzzanell (2010) argues that communicative processes-rooted in messages, d/ Discourse, and narrative-lead to resilience. Drawing on Buzzanell's communicative approach to resilience, the paper aims to surface recurrent patterns in interviews-as-talk of women so as to identify the communicative process that they engaged in towards fostering disaster resilience in their families. Thematic analysis of in-depth interviews with 17 women and three focus group discussions uncovered communcative strategies such as: a)crafting normalcy, b)affirming identity anchors, c) maintaining and using communication networks; d)putting alternative logics at work; and e) backgrounding-foregrounding. By approaching disaster from the vantage point of women, the paper could provide basis for more gender-sensitive communication interventions and for other policies and programs on disaster risk reduction. In addition, the paper contributes to conceptualizations of disaster resilience from a constitutive view of communication perspective.
