The paper presents the most important forest ecosystems in `Kopaonik` National Park with a special reference to the forests belonging to 13 sites under the protection regime level I. `Kopaonik` was declared a national park in 1981 according to the Law on National Parks (`Official Gazette of SRS`, No. 41/1981). The latest revision of `Kopaonik` National Park was made after 34 years of protection and the sites with the protection regime I were determined and described. In the area of Raška Municipality, these are the following sites: `Barska Reka`, `Kozje Stene`, `Jankove Bare`, `Samokovska Reka`, `Vučak`, `Mrkonja` and Gobelja, and in the area of Brus Municipality `Bele Stene`, `Metodje`, `Jelak`, `Duboka`, `Jelovarnik` and `Suvo Rudište`.
