The paper presents methodological aspects of trawl survey planning of the Russian sturgeon from the Russian Federation responsibility area of the Caspian Sea and processing of the data obtained. The most attention is given to aspects of survey stratification, which enables us to obtain more accurate stock abundance estimates, to optimal allocation of samples by strata and necessary sample size.
