Soil pollution by heavy metals is an important environmental problem. Although the toxicity of metals limits the growth of sensitive species, some plants have developed tolerance to a higher levels of heavy metals. The objective of preliminary research was to determine the interspecies differences in acceptance and accumulation of metals (Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn) in Salix purpurea L. from two populations (Zahumsko and Moravac) with goal to determine the limit of interspecies tolerance to the amount of metal in the soil. We used atomic absorption spectrophotometry to determine the quantity of metals in the soil and plant material. The bioaccumulation coefficient was determined, and differences in the concentration of metals in plants, as well as between soil and plants, were determined by variance analysis method (OneVai Anova). A higher quantity of metal was recorded in plant organisms from the population of Moravac site compared to the same plants from Zahumsko locality. Statistically significant differences in the content of metals were found in Salix purpurea L. individuals from different sites.
