The contamination of soil by heavy metals can influence increased concentrationof metals in medicinal plants and limits their use in the pharmaceutical industry, because the increased concentrations of some metals can have negative impact onthe health of humans. The content of heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Ni, Fe, Pb, Mn, Zn) in thesamples of soils and medicinal plant species Acinos hungaricus from two differenthabitats: tailing pond „Gornje polje“ of MMCC „Trepča“ and habitat near city of Niš,were determined and compared. Obtained data suggests that the soil from tailingpond are polluted by heavy metals Cd, Cu, Pb i Zn. The increased content of Pb inplant samples from tailing pond, that exceeds enormous the recommended limits, suggests that Acinos hungaricus from habitats of MMCC „Trepča“ can not be safelyused in traditional medicine.
