Effect of salt stress on the transpiration rate of maize, sugar beet and faba bean
2017
Civelek, A.T.
This study aims to see effect of salt stress on the transpiration rate of maize, sugar beet and faba bean. The plants were exposed to 125mM salt solution before harvest. The study was carried out in growth chambers under controlled conditions in aquaculture.Plants under salt stress showed decreased growth but the response differed for each plants type studied. With the effect of the first phase of salt stress, corn plants showed more reduction in leaf area and both shoot and root fresh and dry mass. Sugar beet was less affected than faba bean and maize because it was resistant to salt. At the rate of transpiration, sugar beet, bean and maize decreased at different rates. The greatest reduction in the rate of transpiration was seen in the faba bean.
