Increasing wheat production in the country - groceries chief security guarantor.
The article analyzes the current state of wheat production in Georgia. It is noted that the modern level of domestic production does not meet the demand of the local population; the coefficient of self-sufficiency in wheat varies from 6-15 percent between 2010 and 2018, which is rather low. Consumer prices in different countries of the world are also compared to those in Georgia. It also noted that the country's agricultural potential should be exploited in a stage-by-stage manner, which requires a deeper cooperation between the public and private sectors. According to the authors, the program “Wheat” should be established to finance all activities that are to increase gradually output and food value of this crop in the population and significantly increase the use of native wheat for food purposes.
