The team of authors dedicates this book to the whole thinking society of Latvia, especially to the youth, who have been given the opportunity to live in a very interesting era of change by the unprecedented pace of world development. This is not a classic textbook, nor is it a scientific literature – rather a popular scientific work aimed at addressing and engaging. There are many good, easy-to-understand sources of information on how to grow a forest in Latvian. We wanted to create a single, easy-to-describe description of how wood grown in forests becomes an irreplaceable value, present in almost all visible products and processes, both visibly and invisibly. With this book, we want to provide an insight into the existing, as well as untapped and even unexplored possibilities of using wood. Our greatest appreciation will be if this book encourages people to take an in-depth interest in the use of wood, perhaps even to link their education and careers to it.

Autoru kolektīvs velta šo grāmatu visai Latvijas domājošajai sabiedrībai, īpaši jaunatnei, kam pasaules attīstības nebijušais temps dāvājis iespēju dzīvot ļoti interesantā pārmaiņu laikmetā. Šī nav klasiska mācību grāmata, tā nav arī zinātniskā literatūra – drīzāk populārzinātnisks darbs, kura mērķis ir uzrunāt un ieinteresēt. Latviešu valodā eksistē daudz labu, viegli uztveramas informācijas avotu par to, kā audzēt mežu. Mēs vēlējāmies radīt vienotu, vieglā valodā veidotu aprakstu, kā mežos izaudzētā koksne kļūst par neaizstājamu vērtību, gan redzamā, gan nepamanāmā veidā klātesot teju visos cilvēku izmantotajos produktos un procesos. Ar šo grāmatu vēlamies sniegt ieskatu esošajās, kā arī vēl līdz galam neizmantotajās un pat neapjaustajās koksnes izmantošanas iespējās. Mūsu lielākais novērtējums būs tad, ja šī grāmata mudinās cilvēkus sākt padziļināti interesēties par koksnes izmantošanu, varbūt pat ar to saistīt savu izglītību un karjeru.
